Welcome to Kiln, a game jam hosted by Purdue Hackers! By participating in Kiln, you agree to the following rules, terms, and conditions. These exist to ensure a fair, fun, and respectful environment for everyone involved.

Eligibility

  • You must be 17 years or older to participate.
  • Kiln is open to students at Purdue University, but prize eligibility may be restricted based on local laws or university guidelines. Organizers reserve the right to verify eligibility and withhold prizes if necessary.

Code of Conduct

All participants are expected to uphold a safe and inclusive environment. The following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Harassment, discrimination, or bullying of any kind.
  • Plagiarism or submitting work you didn’t create or have permission to use.
  • Violating the game jam rules or interfering with other participants.
  • Submitting your game after the official deadline (exceptions may be granted at organizers' discretion).

Violations may result in disqualification and removal from the event or community spaces.

Submission Guidelines

  • You may use existing code, assets, or libraries, including game engines.
  • **Purdue Hackers Creatura** assets are explicitly allowed under the following conditions:

    The Creatura characters and associated assets are the intellectual property of Purdue Hackers.
    By participating in Kiln, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Creatura assets solely for your submission to this game jam
    This license does not extend to projects submitted or published outside of Kiln.​
  • AI-generated assets and code are permitted, but must be clearly disclosed in your submission.
  • You may continue working on your game after the jam and submit it elsewhere (e.g. itch.io, Steam).

Intellectual Property

  • You retain full ownership of your game and all associated intellectual property.
  • By default, submitting a game to Kiln grants Purdue Hackers a perpetual, non-exclusive license to showcase your submission (e.g. on social media, our website, or event recaps).
  • If you prefer not to have your game or its content shared publicly, you must indicate this in writing with an email sent to phackers@purdue.edu within 24 hours of submitting your game.

Prizes

Prizes may include (but are not limited to):

  • Wacom tablets (sponsored and fulfilled by Wacom)
  • Mechanical keyboards
  • Gift cards
  • Board games

Winners will be chosen by a panel of organizers and judges based on creativity, execution, and overall polish. Judges’ decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Winners will be publicly announced on the Purdue Hackers Discord Server. You may be contacted to arrange prize fulfillment. If we are unable to contact a winner within a reasonable period, we may reassign the prize.

Media & Promotion

By attending Kiln, you agree that Purdue Hackers may take and use photographs, videos, or other recordings of the event—including your likeness and project—for promotional purposes (e.g. social media, recap videos, documentation).

If you prefer not to appear in media content, you may request to opt out by speaking with an organizer or indicating your preference in writing via email to phackers@purdue.edu. We will make reasonable efforts to respect your request.

 

Liability & Disclaimers

  • Purdue Hackers and its affiliates are not responsible for loss of data, technical issues, internet outages, or any damages incurred during participation.
  • You are responsible for ensuring your submission complies with applicable laws and third-party licenses.

Disputes

Organizers will make good-faith efforts to resolve any issues that arise. By participating, you agree that all decisions made by Purdue Hackers organizers regarding rule enforcement, judging, and prizes are final.
